I have, for many years now, had an interest in 3D computer graphics. I have experimented with many different types of 3D Software, some of which are superior than others. I am also near completion of a BSc (Hons) in Surveying and Mapping Science, and so for my dissertation, I am researching the merits of combining both. To help achieve this, I will be surveying a 19th Century Post Windmill that stands on the green at Mountnessing, in Essex. I will be using various equipment to survey this windmill: Standard Traverse kit to derive ground station co-ordinates, along with a digital theodolite coupled with a Leica Disto to measure to points normally out of reach to the surveyor. The Disto is perfect for surveying to inaccessable points, and on the structure in question this relates to over 80% of the windmill.
